A 72ª edição do Emmy Awards aconteceu no último domingo (20), e a exemplo do que nós vimos no VMA, a premiação precisou se adaptar à pandemia. Organizado um evento virtual apresentado por Jimmy Kimmel, o Emmy foi transmitido direto do Staples Center em Los Angeles, onde a Academia de Artes & Ciências Televisivas premiou os melhores da TV em 2019.
Schitt’s Creek foi o grande nome da noite. A série da CBC recebeu 15 indicações, feito histórico para uma comédia em temporada final. Na premiação, Schitt’s Creek levou oito estatuetas, entre elas nas categorias de melhor ator e atriz, melhor ator e atriz coadjuvante. Anteriormente, apenas Tudo em Família, Supergatas e Will & Grace tinham alcançado o mesmo feito.
Entre os dramas, Watchmen brilhou com seis vitórias. A adaptação da obra de Alan Moore levou o prêmio da noite - melhor minissérie - e não deixou o casal Regina King e Yahya Abdul-Mateen II sair de mãos vazias. Num destaque interessante, Watchmen levou o prêmio de melhor roteiro com "This Extraordinary Being", episódio de estreia que não poupou da morte nem personagem importante.
Num destaque triste e bonito, o ator Chadwick Boseman recebeu o prêmio In Memorian. Boseman morreu no final de agosto aos 43 anos, vítima de um câncer de cólon. O tributo deste ano relembrou outras perdas além do Pantera Negra, como Regis Philbin, Caroll Spinney e Naya Rivera, ao som do cover de "Nothing Compares 2 U" feito pelo HE.R.
